The Garden Village, a company that was once housed in a disused cowshed, has surpassed £1m in sales and relocated to a larger facility. Based in Altham near Accrington, Lancashire, it is the first UK company to design and manufacture wheelie bin storage units and now offers over 100 products. The 7,500 sq ft industrial unit strategically positions the company for future growth, particularly as it seeks to expand into the commercial bin storage market. The share acquisition that made director Caroline Donelan the sole shareholder was facilitated by Jackson Lees, whose corporate and commercial team has advised The Garden Village for several years on all major matters, including negotiating their recent lease terms, contracts for new products and conditions laid out by the move.
Caroline, a trained horticulturist, launched the business after experiencing health issues while running a gardening and landscape design company. Thanks to increased demand triggered by the pandemic, The Garden Village has grown from a side hustle to employing a team of 10 who produce over 20 units per day. The business now manufactures a range of bin stores in various sizes, equipment and log storage units, outdoor bars, and storage for parcels and bicycles using locally and sustainably sourced timber by expert craftsmen.
Jen Goodwin, a solicitor in the corporate and commercial team at Jackson Lees, expresses her pleasure in advising the company, while Caroline is excited about the future and describes it as an excellent learning curve. The Garden Village hopes its new premises, which features a brand-new showroom, will be their final relocation.
Overall, The Garden Village’s proprietorship shift, product line expansion, and new premises showcase tremendous growth and exciting opportunities amid economic uncertainty.
