The Northumberland Small Business Service has formed a new collaborative partnership with a business center situated in Ponteland. This union aims to offer support to individuals interested in pursuing a business idea and establishing their own venture in the parish. SME Centre of Excellence, which has previously aided over 12,000 businesses in Northumberland, will extend their expertise in the area of business guidance and support as part of Northumberland Small Business Service.
The program mainly focuses on pre and start-up businesses, offering them a comprehensive range of support to help them commence their operations and navigate their initial year of trading. Outlined by Advance Northumberland on behalf of Northumberland County Council, the Northumberland Small Business Service seeks to provide support for businesses aiming to expand, farm endeavours looking to diversify, and individuals keen on starting their business, predominantly in rural areas.
The project is funded by the North of Tyne Combined Authority Investment Fund, UK Shared Prosperity Fund, and Rural England Prosperity Fund. The North of Tyne Combined Authority acts as the lead authority. The Enterprise & Start-Up service will function until March 2025 and includes access to a £2million rural capital Grant Investment Fund to support eligible businesses in rural areas with growth plans to access direct capital investment to expand their productive capacity, diversify into new markets and products.
The programme’s support is tailor-made to suit those who are in their first year of business and individuals aged 16 years and above interested in pursuing a business idea. The programme comprises industry expert workshops, 1-2-1 support provided by professional experts from SME Centre of Excellence, and large-scale events facilitating building a strong business community for the individuals starting up and looking to develop meaningful business connections, including keynote speakers delivering seminars.
The Programme Manager, Lucy Evermore, said, “It’s fantastic to offer start-ups and those aspiring to begin a business invaluable support. Northumberland is dynamic and creative, and extending support to these ventures will be beneficial not only to the individuals but also to the economy. I am thrilled to collaborate with Ammar and the team to extend expert support over the next few years, helping start-ups maneuver through their business expedition.”
