AK Teaching, one of the largest independent teacher recruitment agencies in the North of England, has opened a new headquarters located at Sunderland’s City Hall. Since its founding in 2012, the company has recruited for positions in primary, secondary, and SEND schools. With specialized consultants in each sector, they can offer candidates the best possible advice. AK Teaching recently became the largest independent education recruitment company in Sunderland, expanding to include offices in Newcastle and Leeds, apart from its Sunderland headquarters.
According to Jonny Greener, director at AK Teaching, the new office at City Hall is an exciting development. Anthony Kirtley, the company’s founder, and Greener, both from Sunderland, have always headquartered the company in that city. This move will put them at the heart of the city’s transformation. Greener believes the Riverside Sunderland project will be a “game-changer” and that being a part of it will allow AK Teaching to play its role in the area’s regeneration. The company is proud to be based in Sunderland and anticipates that its new site will give it a platform to expand the business and continue to provide employment opportunities for the local workforce.
The Riverside Sunderland project is one of the UK’s most ambitious urban regeneration schemes, with numerous sustainable infrastructure facilities and cultural venues. Included in the project are Maker and Faber, two offices that are highly sustainable; the Beam and the Yard; a state-of-the-art Eye Hospital; a multi-purpose cultural venue called Culture House, and the National Esports Performance Campus, among others. The scheme seeks to double the residential population of Sunderland’s city centre and increase employment opportunities by 50%, with £100m investment from Legal & General and £20m from the government’s Levelling Up Fund.
Councillor Graeme Miller, the leader of Sunderland City Council, said that AK Teaching is an excellent example of a local company that had expanded to become a key player in the education sector. He is delighted that the firm has chosen to reaffirm its commitment to the City by setting itself at the heart of the Riverside Sunderland. He looks forward to watching the company grow from its new location.
