Redrow is participating in National Apprenticeship Week (February 5 – 11), with Tom Cocker, a 19-year-old apprentice bricklayer, benefitting from the homebuilder’s apprenticeship scheme. Under the one-year course, he works at Redrow’s Granby Meadows development based in Harrogate, where he gains practical experience working alongside the company’s site management team and subcontractors. The Redrow apprenticeship covers many key housebuilding trades, including carpentry, plumbing, bricklaying and groundworks, as well as technical, administration and commercial jobs in its offices. Tom’s apprenticeship includes ten weeks of site work based in Harrogate and two weeks of off-site training at Redrow’s training hub in Tamworth.
Gary Woodhouse, the project manager at Redrow Yorkshire, supervises Tom and other apprentices in the area. The apprenticeships provide on-the-job training and experience with highly skilled teams, as well as the opportunity to gain recognised industry qualifications; they also come with payment for the duration. Redrow’s apprenticeship schemes are vital for ensuring it maintains a trained and skilled workforce for the company’s future projects.
