Esh Group, a firm based in the North of England, has unveiled a new carbon reduction strategy titled Even Greener to take significant steps towards becoming a more sustainable contractor. The aim is to achieve net zero by 2040 by implementing achievable measures that will reduce carbon emissions year-on-year. The Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) has been endorsed by Esh this year. The Even Greener strategy includes several headline targets, including full electrification or low carbon vehicles for 100% of its owned fleet by 2035 and a 65% reduction in business operating carbon by 2034. These figures include Scope 1, 2, and 3 waste, staff commuting, business travel, and upstream transportation. Esh’s CEO, Andy Radcliffe, emphasized the importance of contributing to a worldwide sustained reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by suggesting that the company must make changes. He also said that it was essential to ensure that the targets and plans developed by the company are achievable. Esh’s carbon champions, senior representatives and subject matter experts, are driving the Even Greener initiative by bringing forward ideas and innovations that can be trialled and assessed and then implemented if key outcomes for carbon reduction, operational performance, and commercial viability are met. Supply chain engagement, client engagement, pre-construction, and project delivery are additional areas of focus. Esh currently generates most of its carbon emissions from Scope 3, which is generated by suppliers and subcontractors. Therefore, the company has begun surveying a sizable proportion of its supply chain and offering guidance, resources, and training. Darush Dodds, the Director of Corporate Affairs, claimed that sustainable practice should be rooted in the company’s core business operations. He also expressed hope that individuals, suppliers, and clients could all work together toward the same end goal, a greener way of doing business.
