A new community funding offer aims to inspire more young people from marginalized and economically-deprived backgrounds in the Midlands about technology, science, and engineering. National Grid Electricity Distribution is providing grants of up to £5,000 for registered charities and non-profit companies, and up to £2,000 for unregistered community organizations to engage children in STEM activities.
The Community Matters Fund by National Grid is offering £250,000 worth of grants to enhance engagement and expand learning beyond the national curriculum. Successful projects must align with at least one of the following themes: opening new career possibilities in STEM, boosting confidence and skills in STEM, and removing barriers to STEM access.
Ellie Patey, Community Engagement Manager for National Grid Electricity Distribution, stated, “Big challenges facing schools around resources, time allocation, and funding have proven major barriers to engaging kids with this vital area of learning.” The initiative aims to support young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and those underrepresented in STEM fields.
Applications for the grants open on March 6th and close on March 27th. Grant distribution will take place in April.
