Scunthorpe-based international packaging company Skymark has utilized Government funding to implement a smart metering system, aimed at reducing energy consumption and enhancing efficiency. The £30,000 “full site submetering system” accurately identifies electricity usage during manufacturing processes. This investment has received £5,000 in Government support, as part of a larger initiative backed by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Shaine Gill-Ohrt, Skymark’s compliance and accreditation manager, expressed gratitude to North Lincolnshire Council for their involvement in this significant project. Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, emphasized the positive impact of Government funding on local businesses, like Skymark, enabling technology investments for tangible change. The new system, which includes smart units and 54 monitoring stations, provides real-time electricity consumption data to optimize manufacturing processes, assess the electricity impact of operational adjustments, and demonstrate cost savings. Skymark, along with other local companies, has collectively invested £2.2m, supported by a Government cash injection from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
