West Northamptonshire Council (WNC) has approved plans to lease land to Northamptonshire County Cricket Club (NCCC) in order to establish a new cricket facility in Northampton. The approval of a 125-year lease for land at New Manor Farm, Moulton, will enable NCCC to move forward with consulting residents on the progress of proposals for a second site. These plans will be tested through the planning process and local licensing regimes, subject to the usual consultation processes.
Ray Payne, NCCC Chief Executive, stated, “This is an exciting milestone in a project that we’ve been working on for some time.” He emphasized the need for additional facilities due to the growth of cricket in the county, particularly in the women’s game and disability cricket.
The proposed venue will have a permanent capacity of 2,000, with additional temporary stands subject to approval by the local authority. This new facility will support the development of women’s and girls’ cricket as well as provide a consistent venue for pathway cricket.
Cllr Adam Brown, Deputy Leader of West Northamptonshire Council and Cabinet Member for Housing, Culture and Leisure, expressed the council’s support for leasing the land to NCCC, describing it as an exciting step forward in plans to deliver a first-class facility in West Northamptonshire.
Gavin Warren, NCCC Chairman, stressed the club’s commitment to investing in facilities to expand opportunities for everyone to play and increase the club’s reach into communities across Northamptonshire and surrounding counties.
