Tech Returners has formed a new partnership with the Government Digital Service to provide experienced software engineers with the opportunity to return to the tech industry through a free nine-week course. The programme is being sponsored by Thoughtworks and is focused on backend JavaScript and TypeScript. The content has been curated keeping in mind the requirements of software developers in organizations and companies and aims to boost the confidence of participants. GDS has guaranteed job interviews for all participants. The program will commence on January 22, 2024, and conclude on March 22, and will be conducted online. Tech Returners, which specializes in refreshing and upskilling individuals sponsored by corporates, will deliver the course. Their client portfolio comprises global brands, including AutoTrader, the BBC, and The Guardian.
The company has reported that most of the returners on their past programs (62%) were people of color, and 59% of participants identified as women. Additionally, 72% of women identified as proficient in agile development, and one-fourth of the women had leadership experience.
James Kirk, the Head of Software Engineering at GDS, commented that they aim to diversify the tech sector and their own operations, and this partnership with Tech Returners and Thoughtworks appropriately reflects that goal. Emily Carey, the Client Principal of Public Sector at Thoughtworks, added that they share the values of diversity and inclusion with their partners.
The deadline for applications is January 9th, and only eight places are available. If you’re interested in returning to the tech sector, apply today!
