The Tech Welcome Grant, funded by the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority, has reached a significant milestone with 100 jobs brought into the region. The grant offers tech businesses up to £10,000 to establish their operations in South Yorkshire and supports local tech start-ups in setting up their first office in the area.
Makauley Barron, Tech Welcome Project Officer, emphasized the success of the scheme in establishing South Yorkshire as a hub for tech and digital, benefiting all four areas of the region. The grant has attracted a diverse range of companies, including those in robotics, 3D CAD design, data visualization, and cyber security, making the region stronger and more competitive.
The grant, still in its trial form, has funding to bring in a total of 141 jobs, with a sliding scale of financial support based on the number of jobs a business relocates into the area.
Jamie Toyne, Founder & CEO of Herd Consulting, expressed gratitude for the support from the Tech Welcome Grant, highlighting the financial assistance and the welcoming environment for tech and digital businesses in South Yorkshire. The company recently relocated to Wizu Workspace in Sheffield, bringing five new permanent jobs to the region, with plans to expand the team further.
