Quintain, the esteemed developer behind Wembley Park, has recently announced that it will strengthen its partnership with Second Floor Studios & Arts by leasing more affordable artist workspaces in Wembley Park. The new lease will double the number of artist workspaces at Wembley Park, from 26 to 56 studios accommodating up to 80 artists. The initial phase of the partnership began in 2016 and delivered 6,880 sq. ft. of studio space in 2018.
This long-term partnership ensures that over 60% of the artists and makers working on the site are from the local London Borough of Brent, fulfilling its original ‘Section 106’ planning requirement. The second phase of the affordable workspace is set to launch later this year, providing an additional 8,293 sq ft of studio space, which is 25% more than what is required under Quintain’s planning permission. These 30 purpose-built studios will become home to local visual artists, designers and makers. The fully accessible workspaces on the ground and first floor consist of a breakout area and a gallery wall where the artists and designers can exchange ideas and display their creations.
James Saunders, CEO of Quintain, is committed to establishing Wembley Park as a place for art and culture, and has ensured that affordable space is provided for local creatives to thrive. The CEO of Second Floor Studios & Arts, Nichole Herbert Wood, is equally delighted to see the Quintain partnership go from strength to strength, providing support for an additional 40 local artists. In partnership with Brent Council, they are pleased to provide long-term, affordable and high-quality studio spaces, which are vital in protecting the creative and cultural aspects of London and its communities.
Councillor Shama Tatler, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Planning, Regeneration and Growth at Brent Council, commends the initiative, saying that Brent is brimming with creative talent, and local creatives play a vital role in the growth of the borough. Brent Council is committed to supporting creative talent, and through the partnership with Quintain and Second Floor Studios & Arts, an additional 30 affordable workspaces in Wembley Park will be delivered, creating more opportunities for the local creative community to flourish.
