The Discovery Museum is launching a new initiative called Steam to Green: A North East Energy Revolution to showcase the latest advancements in green renewable energy. The exhibition, opening in July, will feature scientific and engineering items from the museum’s historical collections alongside trailblazing research from North East England. The museum is partnering with Newcastle University to clarify green technologies and features the headline sponsorship of Vattenfall. One of Vattenfall’s onshore windfarms, the Ray Wind Farm, will feature prominently in the exhibition location, which is situated on the former estate of Charles Parsons, the Newcastle engineer who is responsible for inventing the compound steam turbine that powers ships and designed the world’s fastest steam-turbine powered ship, the Turbinia. The exhibition, which coincides with Vattenfall’s work to maintain diversity in renewable energy generation solutions, will be a key part of the North East’s energy transition. This exhibition is the product of a successful collaboration between Discovery Museum, Newcastle University, Vattenfall, and many other local companies.
