Former UKFast CEO, Lawrence Jones, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being convicted of historic rape against two women in Greater Manchester. Earlier this year, he was convicted of a sexual assault against a third female. Jones, who has been in custody for the last 10 months, has been stripped of his honorary doctorate by Manchester Metropolitan University.
Jones made sexual advances towards Woman A, one of the victims he assaulted during a business trip to London. Jones aggressively sexually assaulted her after repeatedly pressuring her to meet him outside of work. Woman A documented the incidents and Jones was charged for this offence. Jones was found guilty of this sexual assault along with the historic rapes of Woman B and Woman C. In court, Judge Sarah Johnston characterized Jones’ behaviour as “characterised by entitlement, dominance and a lack of regard for the rights and freedoms of these women, and in my view, an element of sinister premeditation.”
Woman B disclosed that Jones raped her in 1993 after taking her to his flat, where he drugged her with a liquid in a bottle he induced her to smell. Jones became aggressive when Woman B refused his advances. She eventually lost consciousness and woke up being raped. Woman C also disclosed that Jones raped her in 1993.
The police commend the immense courage of the victims in coming forward to disclose the traumatic experiences they have endured. They encourage victims of sexual offences to come forward and report them to the police. They will do everything in their power to ensure perpetrators are held accountable for their actions and are committed to providing support to those involved in this investigation and to those victims who reach out and disclose to them.
