Plymouth Science Park has recently invested in advanced engineering design software from Measurement Solutions, known as nTop software. This investment has expanded the digital design and manufacturing options available to the Park’s users, helping them to easily create topological designs that can be used with additive manufacturing. The Park has committed to a three-year license of the nTop software, reflecting its ambition to provide the latest and best industry technologies to companies across the South West and beyond.
The nTop software offers a range of unique features that support organic extrusions and inclusions in pre-existing CAD designs, as well as the creation of designs from scratch. This includes generative design, topology optimisation, and automation features, as well as an unbreakable geometry engine. This investment is part of a £507,000 funding package from the Heart of the South West LEP, which will help to establish a new digital engineering test facility (DREAM) at the Park, set to be installed by spring 2024. This facility for reverse engineering, design, manufacturing, and validation will enable users to create and test additive manufactured prototypes and products.
Jacques Wood, Senior Digital Applications Engineer at Plymouth Science Park, commented: “We are thrilled to be able to enhance our manufacturable design capabilities at the Park by incorporating the nTop software. This latest technology will bolster our offering to businesses in the manufacturing and engineering industries, giving them access to cutting-edge tech and supporting new product development.”
Measurement Solutions, a highly trusted UK provider of calibre metrology systems and services, has assisted Plymouth Science Park in benchmarking the nTop software. This collaboration will help increase on-site resources, providing industry-specific knowledge and case-specific equipment to users. Joe Winston, nTop Account Manager at Measurement Solutions, added: “It’s fantastic to see forward-thinking companies like Plymouth Science Park adopting innovative software like nTop to maximise their additive manufacturing hardware. I’m excited to see how they will push additive manufacturing design to the next level in the coming months and years.”
Overall, this investment in advanced engineering design software from Measurement Solutions reflects Plymouth Science Park’s commitment to providing the latest and best technology to businesses in the South West and beyond. This investment has enhanced the Park’s digital design and manufacturing options, ensuring that they can provide cutting-edge digital solutions to their users and support new product development.
