The North East’s foremost technology festival, TechNExt, is back this week following the success of its inaugural edition in 2023. Last year’s festival included 52 community-led fringe events, in addition to its four flagship events that showcased the North East’s flourishing tech scene. TechNExt 2024 will amplify this success, with four flagship events returning alongside a new program of fringe events. Furthermore, there will be a renewed focus on the festival’s Good Festival Ambition, which aims to promote sustainable, diverse, and inclusive event practices. A schools’ challenge has also been added to inspire more students to explore the exciting opportunities presented by technology.
David Dunn, CEO of Sunderland Software City, noted, “TechNExt 2023 set a new benchmark for tech events in our region.” The festival has been instrumental in demonstrating the North East’s technology innovation and talent, according to the CEO. Having drawn over 3,000 attendees, TechNExt’s return in 2024 is a testament to the thriving business ecosystem in the region.
Key industry leaders will be speaking at the main stage conference, which will be held on Thursday. Among them is Eleanor Harry, CEO & Founder of HACE, who remarked, “I’m really looking forward to attending and speaking at TechNext in Newcastle this year. The North is becoming a powerhouse in the technology ecosystem.”
Designed to bring together the most innovative minds in the tech and business worlds, TechNExt 2024 also aims to promote sustainable and inclusive practices. The Good Festival Ambition is central to this vision. Sarah Thackray, director at Dynamo North East and BeaconHouse Events, added, “Our commitment to an even more inclusive, diverse, and sustainable event is at the heart of this vision.”
Opencast, Leighton, and Sage are the headline sponsors for TechNExt 2024. Opencast’s CEO, Tom Lawson, urged attendees from outside the region to consider joining the festival and encouraged local businesses to participate by sharing their ideas and experiences. “I urge people from outside the North East to consider coming along in 2024, and for other companies in the region to think about what they can share to continue to fly the flag for what is a very vibrant tech sector,” Lawson said.
