Wensleydale Creamery, a professional cheesemaker with a vast experience in natural cheese smoking for more than 30 years has made a momentous investment in its natural cheese smoking capabilities. The company has added a new cheese smokehouse to its facility located at Hawes, in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, which will allow the business to increase its output of smoked cheese. With the surge in demand for naturally smoked products, the launch of the new facility was inevitable.
This new addition will more than double the Creamery’s output of naturally smoked cheese and its new smoking technology will enable the cheesemaker to expand its naturally smoked cheese range with a variety of natural smoked wood flavours such as Oak, Beech, and Hickory which are FSC certified and sourced sustainably from managed woodlands. This comes at the right time when there has been a 43% increase in searches for ‘smoked cheese’ in the UK within the last quarter, according to Google Trends data, and UK sales show a 5% value growth.
Apart from being a natural preservation method, the art of naturally smoking cheese results in an “elevated and enhanced flavour throughout,” as well as preserving the texture and quality of the cheese which takes on a beautiful golden-brown rind, creating a distinct smokiness from the cheese. Furthermore, it does not require any artificial flavours, colours or preservatives.
“As consumers seek new flavours in their everyday shop, we’ve already started to see an increased interest and demand for natural smoked cheese which continues to grow in popularity. Our investment in the business’ smoking capabilities marks a major milestone for us, and we’re committed to innovating in this area. By more than doubling our smoking capacity, we hope to be able to grow our business further,” commented Sandra Bell, Marketing Manager at Wensleydale Creamery.
In conclusion, this investment marks a significant turning point in the history of Wensleydale Creamery, which underscores its commitment to innovative cheese making and sustainability. As such, it will create an avenue to achieve a profitable growth target while meeting the increasing consumer demand for naturally smoked cheese products.
