AXA UK, a prominent insurance company, has officially moved into a new office situated in the heart of Middlesbrough. The momentous occasion was commemorated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Middlesbrough Mayor and Tees Valley Combined Authority Cabinet Member Chris Cooke. This move sees AXA UK occupying more than half of the space in the impressive 40,000 sq ft building, accommodating over 500 Teesside-based staff members.
This development, along with the broader Centre Square project, will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Middlesbrough town centre. In February, the Tees Valley Combined Authority and Tees Valley Mayor were presented with the keys to this cutting-edge Grade A office space, which was constructed by renowned developer Ashall Projects.
With a significant investment of £9.7m from the TVCA and £2m from Middlesbrough Council, out of its £21.9m Towns Fund allocation, this four-storey building showcases the commitment of both parties to the growth and prosperity of the region.
Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen emphasizes the growing appeal of Teesside for ambitious companies, stating that they no longer need to venture to metropolitan cities like Newcastle, Leeds, or Manchester. He believes that Teesside’s ample facilities demonstrate that business success is attainable within the region. The development of Six Centre Square aligns with the administrative achievements of attracting major government departments and numerous civil service jobs to Darlington.
Moreover, this significant investment in Middlesbrough ensures the retention of a major employer in the town centre, contributing to the overall vision of creating opportunities for the younger generation to build successful careers locally. To accomplish this vision, the establishment of world-class offices like Six Centre Square is pivotal, with the town’s Development Corporation playing an essential role in fostering an environment conducive to business growth.
Middlesbrough Mayor Chris Cooke, also a member of the Tees Valley Combined Authority Cabinet, applauds the role that Centre Square has assumed as a thriving hub for businesses in Teesside. He believes that developments like this are essential in driving economic prosperity while generating high-quality skilled jobs for the local workforce.
Anna Fleming, Chief Operating Officer at AXA UK Retail Insurance, expressed excitement over the relocation to Six Centre Square, noting the numerous benefits it would bring to the company and its employees. This move further demonstrates AXA UK’s unwavering support and commitment to Middlesbrough’s ongoing regeneration.
The official opening of AXA UK’s new office space within Six Centre Square signifies a significant milestone in Middlesbrough’s development. This modern facility, alongside the Centre Square project, will serve as a catalyst for economic growth, job creation, and the nurturing of local talent.
