Swedish clean energy-tech company, Aira, has launched in the UK with a promise to invest £300 million over the next three years to expedite decarbonisation. The company aims to supply affordable clean energy-tech solutions to five million households across Europe, with one million in Britain, to transition Europe away from gas. Aira’s innovative solutions will reduce the UK’s CO2 emissions by the equivalent of taking two million cars off the nation’s roads.
The UK still heavily depends on 25 million fossil fuel boilers for household heating, which accounts for 16% of the country’s CO2 emissions. Using an air source heat pump can reduce household heating costs and carbon emissions. Aira’s solutions make heating-related costs 25% lower, while also decreasing CO2 emissions by 75%.
To decrease the country’s dependency on expensive, imported fossil fuels, the government aims to achieve 600,000 heat pump installations per year by 2028. Aira Chairman, Harald Mix, will introduce Aira’s decarbonisation pledge for the UK at the Global Investment Summit held today.
Aira UK currently comprises 200 employees, including Clean Energy Experts and supporting staff, and has a total of 600 employees across the globe. Since its worldwide launch in June 2023, Aira has obtained All Seasons Energy, a renewable energy specialist in Sheffield, to make use of their local knowledge and expertise.
To speed up growth, Aira is investing in two Aira Academies to train thousands of Clean Energy Experts in London and Yorkshire. This will assist in achieving the company’s goal of serving a million UK homes and developing future clean energy workers.
Aira UK CEO, Daniel Särefjord, mentioned that heat pumps are the most advanced, budget-friendly, and environmentally friendly way to heat homes. They are four times more energy efficient than gas boilers and will help people decrease their heating bills by 25%. The government has verified that over 90% of UK houses are suitable for a heat pump.
Energy Security Secretary Claire Coutinho stated that families shouldn’t have to choose between cutting costs and emissions, which is why they increased the Boiler Upgrade Scheme by 50% to £7,500 grants. Their plan is working, with an increase in applications. Aira’s £300 million investment in the UK heat pump sector would assist in further expansion and will create 8,000 new jobs, boosting the economy and aiding in the transition to a greener economy.
