The Strategic Land Group (SLG) is expanding its presence in the Midlands region, with the recent agreement of land promotion agreements for four additional sites totalling 76 acres. These new sites, located in Derbyshire, Staffordshire, and Leicestershire, have the potential to accommodate over 300 new homes and 440,000 sq ft of commercial space.
In addition to these four sites, SLG is actively promoting three other projects in the region. One of these projects, located in Stone, aims to deliver 130 new homes, while another site in Market Drayton has planning approval for 125 properties. Furthermore, SLG is exploring a potential scheme in Newcastle-under-Lyme to develop approximately 90 homes. All three projects have been included as proposed housing allocations in emerging Local Plans.
With Managing Director Paul Smith overseeing operations, SLG currently manages a diverse portfolio of 16 sites. Commenting on the company’s growth in the Midlands, Paul emphasized the increasing interest from landowners in maximizing land value or repurposing underutilized farming land. Developers also express a strong desire to acquire conveniently located sites near established towns and villages, especially given the limited availability of suitable development opportunities.
Paul further highlighted the urgency of addressing the housing crisis, stressing the importance of collaboration between councils and developers to construct new homes in appropriate locations. Neglecting this issue not only hampers the aspirations of prospective homeowners but also poses challenges to economic growth, particularly in disadvantaged areas.
