A partnership between MSV Housing Group and Manchester City Council is bringing forward a scheme that aims to revitalize a vacant site that has remained unused for over seven years. This partnership will result in the development of 50 apartments for the over 55s, consisting of a mix of one and two-bedroom units. Out of these, seven apartments will be available for sale through shared ownership, three will serve as neighborhood apartments for step-up accommodation, and the remaining 40 will be offered at Manchester Living Rent levels or below.
Priority for renting these apartments will be given to over 55s who have a housing priority need, including those who are looking to downsize and make room for families on the housing waiting list. The demand for affordable homes in neighborhoods like Chorlton is significant, making these newly developed homes highly sought after. Buttress, an award-winning architectural firm based in Manchester, is closely collaborating with the project to ensure that the development adheres to the HAPPI principles, prioritizing the comfort and well-being of its residents.
Apart from well-designed communal areas and facilities within the development, there will also be opportunities to incorporate external features such as health services, spaces for well-being, and platforms for community interaction and engagement. The estimated completion date for this development is Summer 2025, with an investment of over £12m.
Cllr Gavin White, the executive member for housing and development at Manchester City Council, expressed enthusiasm for the project’s impact on the community, stating, “This development marks a significant milestone in the transformation of this long-unused site. It will provide much-needed low-carbon, affordable housing for older individuals, meeting a clear demand in this neighborhood. We believe that this will be a positive investment in the heart of the Chorlton community.”
