Offset Print & Packaging, based in Kent, has recently installed the UK’s first Koenig & Bauer Rapida 145 printing press. This milestone was made possible by a substantial funding package from HSBC UK Equipment Finance. The funding allowed Offset to acquire a cutting-edge press measuring 40m in length and weighing 167 tonnes. With this new press, the company is able to produce 16,000 sheets of cartonboard per hour, measuring 1450x1060mm, at an improved level of quality.
Thanks to the automation and energy-saving features of the press, Offset can now offer large-format decorative packaging products at cost-effective prices. Furthermore, this investment aligns with Offset’s commitment to environmentally sustainable packaging, supporting the government’s single-use plastic ban by encouraging companies to transition to cardboard.
In order to fully maximize the potential of the new press, eight employees from Offset underwent extensive training at the Koenig & Bauer production facility in Germany. Additionally, in response to the increased workload resulting from growing business, Offset hired six new staff members in production and administration roles.
Edward Bone, the Managing Director of Sales at Offset Print & Packaging, emphasized the significance of custom-branded packaging in shaping a company’s identity. He expressed gratitude to HSBC UK for their competitive support over the years, highlighting the crucial role they played in solidifying Offset’s status as a cutting-edge printing manufacturer.
Simon France, the Deputy Head of Corporate HSBC Equipment Finance UK, acknowledged Offset’s commitment to innovation and quality through their investment in the Rapida 145 printing press. He emphasized the importance of providing access to the latest equipment to support Offset’s continued growth as a well-established business.
