Kraken Technologies, a software provider for the global energy industry and part of Octopus Energy Group, has acquired Sennen, a Bristol-based provider of advanced software for delivery and operation of large-scale renewable energy generation. Kraken provides extended analytics, real-time monitoring, optimization and control of energy devices such as solar and wind generation, batteries, heat pumps and electric cars. It enables companies to meet important net-zero targets, and revolutionizes service for other utilities such as water and broadband. Sennen’s latest cloud technology streamlines oversight, maintenance and daily operation of renewable energy projects. By joining forces, Kraken will enhance its asset management offering, allowing it to develop more innovative products and services.
The acquisition of Sennen will increase Kraken’s contracted energy generation and storage assets sixfold, growing them from 6.5 GW to 36 GW. It also will be the first time the platform will be managing offshore wind farms. All 25 employees of Sennen will move over to Kraken Technologies, and continue their work in Bristol.
CEO of Kraken, Devrim Celal says, “This acquisition is a game-changer for us as we continue to disrupt the renewable energy landscape. Sennen’s expertise and innovative solutions perfectly complement our mission to provide efficiency and scalability to asset managers. We are excited to join forces with Sennen’s talented team to turbocharge the move to a cleaner, cheaper energy world.” Sennen was founded in 2017 by Gaby Amiel and Paul Grimshaw, and already has leading renewable energy companies RWE and EDF Renewables and investment manager Foresight Group as clients.
Kraken and Sennen’s technology can unlock tremendous value for their customers, with renewable energy capacity set to triple globally. These companies are at the absolute vanguard of technology enabling the energy transformation. Their focus on meeting the challenges faced by renewable project owners will be increasingly important.
