“The Council is currently seeking a partner to collaborate on the Development and Investment strategy. This strategy aims to showcase the current and future opportunities in Liverpool to developers, investors, key stakeholders, and funding partners, while also communicating a vision for the city’s development and growth.
In addition to Liverpool’s well-known visitor economy and cultural strengths, the strategy will prioritize core economic sectors such as life sciences, digital and creative industries, and advanced car manufacturing. It will also highlight the importance of good-quality developments, sustainable neighborhoods, active travel, and achieving net zero carbon emissions.
Through the development pipeline, the council will utilize this strategy to identify and deliver growth opportunities. It will determine key areas where development activities should be concentrated and explore ways to maximize the city’s own building and land assets, as well as those of the wider public and private sector estates.
Notably, Liverpool is home to the Knowledge Quarter, a thriving urban innovation district spanning 450 acres. This district houses influential players in science, health, technology, education, music, and the performing arts, including ‘The Spine.’ Furthermore, the city’s northern docks development, the Liverpool City Region Freeport, the Baltic Triangle creative quarter, and the waterfront and central business district all present significant growth prospects.
The strategy will also emphasize Liverpool’s commitment to achieving inclusive growth that benefits both the city and its residents. This will be achieved through tangible benefits such as job creation, high-quality housing, improved facilities and services, and enhanced transport connectivity.
Working in partnership with Homes England, the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, and key city stakeholders, the Council expects to complete this work by March 2024.
Cabinet Member for Growth and Economy, Cllr Nick Small, expressed his enthusiasm for the immense opportunities in Liverpool, including ongoing developments in the north docks, film studios, and the success of the Knowledge Quarter. He also emphasized the Council’s collaboration with Liverpool City Region Combined Authority to maximize the potential of government initiatives like the Investment Zone and Freeport. The Development and Investment Strategy will play a pivotal role in unleashing the full opportunities for the city’s residents and businesses in the coming years.
The Council is actively engaged in transforming its operations across various initiatives to capitalize on opportunities for residents and businesses.
