Brackley Property Developments (BPD) has secured the contract from Leicester City Council, following a competitive tendering process, to revitalize an empty property in Leicester. The aim is to transform it into light industrial units that will generate employment opportunities. BPD has partnered with Leicester City Council through a Development Funding Agreement to redevelop the vacant Ian Marlow Centre, a former council depot site on Blackbird Road.
The proposed scheme involves demolishing the existing buildings and constructing 21 small units, providing approximately 30,400 sq ft of modern light industrial space. Demolition is set to commence this month, alongside the submission of a comprehensive planning application for approval, expected by August 2023. Once planning consent is granted, BPD plans to commence construction later in the year or early 2024.
In addition, BPD is collaborating with Leicester City Council to expand the existing Dock and Dock 2 workspace hub. This expansion includes the construction of two new Dock-style office buildings and a terrace comprising nine high-quality manufacturing spaces. Funding for both projects is being provided by the government’s Levelling Up fund.
Stephen Pedrick-Moyle, the Managing Director of BPD, expressed enthusiasm for the development, recognizing the significant demand for small business units within the city. BPD’s objective is to clear the site and develop top-notch light industrial spaces that will contribute to the Council’s efforts in attracting and retaining high-tech industries. This initiative is expected to stimulate business growth while creating opportunities for skilled employment.
By implementing these transformative projects, BPD aims to support economic growth and enhance the business landscape in Leicester.
