England and Chelsea footballer, Raheem Sterling, and industry icon and music video director, Carly Cussen, have officially launched their own creative production agency called Playmaker Films. With a proven track record of collaborating on successful and entertaining video projects for various brands, Sterling and Cussen decided to create Playmaker Films out of their shared passion and excitement.
Playmaker Films has a specialized focus on producing branded content, advertising, and music videos, aiming to deliver the same impact and emotional resonance found in world-class entertainment to brands and their customers. The agency’s core approach is centered around placing “entertainment first,” drawing inspiration from Cussen’s and Sterling’s extensive work behind the camera and on the football pitch over the past two decades.
The launch of Playmaker Films coincides with Sterling’s expansion outside of football as a fashion icon, working with renowned brands such as Bottega Veneta and Burberry. In addition, he has become a powerful advocate for social change through his Raheem Sterling Foundation, creating opportunities for young people across the UK. Sterling was recognized for his contributions to racial equality and was awarded the title of MBE in 2021.
As Sterling’s co-founder, Cussen brings 15 years of industry experience in directing music videos for major artists like Ed Sheeran, Keke Palmer, Little Mix, and Lil’ Baby. She has also worked with well-known brands including Disney, Pretty Little Things, and Samsung, earning multiple awards along the way. Cussen’s highly acclaimed OnePlus “Never Settle” campaign even received a Gold Lovie in the “Weird and Wonderful” category.
Sterling expressed his enthusiasm about the launch, highlighting his growing interest in the behind-the-scenes aspects of video shoots for brands. After working with Cussen on several projects, Sterling recognized her knowledge and expertise, making her the obvious choice to co-found Playmaker Films. Excited about the projects already lined up, including the Clarks “Back To School” campaign, Sterling can’t wait for the world to see what they have in store.
Cussen also shared her thoughts, praising Sterling’s natural talent not only as a performer on the pitch but also in front of the camera. Impressed by his involvement behind the scenes, Cussen knew he had a future in the production side of the industry. Playmaker Films represents a true collaboration between herself, Sterling, and the talented individuals working behind the scenes. With a palpable buzz surrounding the agency and exciting projects on the horizon, Cussen can’t wait for what lies ahead.
Playmaker Films boasts in-house capabilities, including specialist strategy, creative, and production functions. Leading the team are Royston Reeves, former Head of Strategy at JOE Media, and Kem Ekundayo, an international producer with experience working alongside top influencers and musicians like Anne-Marie, KSI, and Popcaan.
Raheem Sterling and Carly Cussen have launched Playmaker Films, a creative production agency that aims to deliver excellent branded content, advertising, and music videos. With both Sterling and Cussen bringing their expertise and experience to the table, Playmaker Films is set to make a significant impact in the industry.
