Irwin Mitchell is set to significantly expand its family law practice in the North East of England with the acquisition of Silk Family Law. This deal, pending contract and SRA (Solicitors Regulation Authority) approval, will further enhance Irwin Mitchell’s already prominent national family law practice, which boasts one of the largest teams in the country. The team regularly handles complex financial separation cases, appearing before the High Court, Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court.
The agreement to acquire Silk Family Law follows closely on the heels of Irwin Mitchell’s recent investment in Scotland-based law firm Wright, Johnston and Mackenzie. In addition, the family law team
has recently welcomed former BBC news presenter Joanna Gosling on board as a mediator. Silk Family Law, which is highly ranked in the North East by Legal 500, operates out of Newcastle, Leeds, and Richmond, North Yorkshire. The firm represents clients in various matrimonial and family law cases, covering financial and children matters. Its specialist lawyers possess expertise in handling intricate financial issues such as business assets, farming businesses, trusts, pensions, as well as cases with international dimensions.
Ros Bever, Director of Legal Services, Family, expressed her enthusiasm about this strategic investment, stating that it will expand their expertise and presence in the North East. Bever noted that Irwin Mitchell’s family law specialists are recognized for their groundbreaking cases and exceptional outcomes, and she looks forward to the joint future with Silk Family Law. Ian Kennerley, Managing Partner at Silk Family Law, also expressed delight at joining forces with Irwin Mitchell. Kennerley reassured clients that they remain devoted to providing the same high-quality family law advice and representation. Both firms share a dedication to client service and excellence. Kennerley acknowledged the benefits of additional resources and support that will now be accessible on a national and international basis.
It is worth mentioning that, in the past financial year, Irwin Mitchell has made other significant acquisitions, including asset management firms TWP Wealth and Andrews Gwynne.
Silk Family Law received advisory services from Armstrong Watson LLP and Harrison Clark Rickerbys Limited, while Irwin Mitchell was supported by their in-house corporate partner Dan Bastide and Menzies LLP.
