Improvements to Charnwood council homes will be done by a new company that has been hired.
The Charnwood Borough Council has given the property maintenance company J. Tomlinson a two-year contract to make improvements to council-owned homes across the borough.
As part of the Council’s plan to improve its housing stock, the contract calls for full and partial kitchen, bathroom, and toilet replacements. It will also include things like making changes to the inside and outside of buildings and fixing up empty homes.
After a tough bidding process, the new contract started this month.
The Council member in charge of public housing, Cllr. James Poland, said, “I’m happy about this new contract and the fact that our properties are still getting money put into them. By making these changes to things like bathrooms and kitchens, our tenants will be able to live better.
“I’m looking forward to seeing J. Tomlinson finish the work well and show that they care about our tenants.”
The Council is in charge of about 5,500 homes in the borough.
The value of the two-year contract, which could be extended for another two years, is estimated to be around £9 million.
Mark Davis, the CEO of J. Tomlinson, said, “We couldn’t be happier to keep up what has been an excellent working relationship with Charnwood BC over the past few years and, from a personal point of view, for a lot longer.”
“What gets us excited is making a difference in the borough and in each community. Over the next couple of years, we’re looking forward to doing this with our colleagues at CBC under a much broader set of rules.”
In the 1950s, the Tomlinson family in Nottinghamshire set up J Tomlinson. Over the years, the business has grown, and now they work in both the Midlands and the North of England.
