Nelson Gonzalez has been named Flint Bishop’s new finance director to help the law firm’s plans for growth through 2023 and beyond.
Gonzalez is a chartered accountant, and he also has more than 20 years of experience in finance and accounting.
In addition to working for Specsavers and Jessops, he led the UK Finance team of a multi-billion-dollar service sector business, where he was a key player in many projects, such as reorganising the structure, implementing an ERP system, and making processes better.
He was most recently the commercial finance director for the Children and Young People division of a large social care provider with a turnover of over £500 million.
Flint Bishop has said that as part of Gonzalez’s new job, he will play a big part in the company’s financial and risk management operations. This includes developing and monitoring control systems to protect and improve the company’s financial performance.
He will work with the CEO, Qamer Ghafoor, and the CFO, Wai Yan Fung, to improve the company’s management reporting and come up with a financial strategy that fits with the company’s growth plans and goals. Gonzalez will be especially involved in the financial parts of the business’s strategic plan. This year, the business made more money than ever before.
Ghafoor commented: “Nelson is an established finance leader. His experience in evaluating, strategising, and delivering commercial opportunities will be a major asset to Flint Bishop. His extensive breadth of finance knowledge spans numerous market sectors and multiple disciplines, many of which will be crucial as the firm looks to transition towards a more business partner focused structure.
“Nelson is a significant hire for the firm and will play a notable part in our commitment to our ambitious growth strategy over the coming months and years. These are exciting times for Flint Bishop.”
